Home Remedies For Nausea

Nausea can be caused by a lot of different things, including illnesses like the flu. It can also be caused by allergic reactions, pregnancy and even food poisoning. But, regardless of its source, it all has one thing in common: how it makes you feel. The discomfort caused by nausea can range from being slightly uncomfortable, to not even being able to keep water down, because of its severity. Seeing a doctor is one way to treat this condition, or you can have immediate relief, and try some of the following home remedies that we found, instead.

Ginger

Ginger is one of the few natural all around cure-alls available today. It has been used for literally thousands of years as a home remedy for nausea, as well as other ailments concerning the stomach. Try grating a quarter inch of ginger into hot water, and steeping it for about 10 minutes. This makes an excellent tea to drink, after straining it to remove bits of the cooked ginger, and adding nutmeg for an earthy flavor. You can heighten the experience by snacking on cookies like ginger snaps for added comfort.

Miso Soup

Nausea caused by too much of another substance, like alcohol, can be aided by hot soups with particular ingredients and herbs. Miso soup is one of those soups, because of the fermented soy paste that is miso. This paste will help to cleanse your body of harmful toxins, protect the liver from damage, and replace the electrolytes that may have been lost after overindulging in alcohol. Adding some ginger to the soup can add some extra healing, and flavor.

Herbal Teas

Herbal teas can also have some helpful healing properties that will help settle the nausea you might be feeling. Peppermint, chamomile and green tea are excellent teas to drink when you are not feeling well, especially for upset stomachs. Adding a teaspoon of honey will also ease any sore throats, and help you feel calmer while the tea does its work.

Japanese Topical Cure

There is an herbal preparation that is often used for nausea and other ills known as konnyaku, or devil’s tongue jelly in Japan. It has soothing properties that can be felt when eaten or used as an external compress material. For this home remedy, you can wrap it in a piece of cloth, and warm it in the microwave. You can then place it on your stomach for 10  to 20 minutes, and it will work to settle down your stomach from outside the body as a topical cure.
