Various occurrences can lead to itchy skin. Perhaps the skin has dried out due to lack of moisture, or a particular substance has the ability to irritate the skin. Either way, itchy skin can be very painful and many times, very annoying to deal with. If you find yourself looking for relief, try these very manageable home remedies first before heading to the store for over-the-counter products.

The Amazing White Powder

You’ve got it. Baking soda! Baking soda is a great home remedy substance to use to relieve itching. If you would like some time to relax, try adding 1 cup of baking soda to a bath of warm water. Sit in the bath for 30-60 minutes, and then air dry. Soaking in the solution should help relieve the pain! Or, try making a paste and applying directly to very concentrated areas. Mix 3 parts of baking soda to 1 part water until it becomes a thick paste. Apply this home remedy and feel instantly better.

Native American Treatment

For years, the Native Americans have lived without Western medicine and resorted to their own home remedies. One of their home remedies for itching includes juniper berries and cloves. To make a paste, first melt 3 ounces of unsalted butter. In another pan, melt about 2 tablespoons of beeswax, and then combine with the butter. Add 5 tablespoons of ground juniper berries and 3 teaspoons of ground cloves. Cool the substance and apply directly to the skin.

The Chinese Way

Another group of people that are great at creating their own home remedies are individuals from China. Hundreds of years ago they discovered that mint is a great relief for itching. Since it contains menthol, mint works great once absorbed into the skin. To make your own mint home remedy, place 1 ounce of dried mint leaves into 1 pint of boiling water. Cool, cover, strain and apply to skin with a cloth.
