3 Home Remedies For Getting Rid Of Fleas

A recipe for flea spray

There are flea sprays that are out there and you may find them to be effective, maybe not. Some of these sprays may make a difference but most likely, they will not get rid of the fleas completely. Try the easy to use, easy to make recipe to make flea spray. This is just one of many home remedies for fleas. Use a gallon of vinegar, half gallon of water, 16 oz. Lemon juice and 8 oz. Witch hazel. Combine these ingredients together and vacuum every day for a week. Spray this mixture every seven days for at least two weeks to enjoy a flea-free environment.

Use Dawn and salt

Killing fleas in your home can be an especially trying adventure. There are several home remedies for fleas and here is a little known remedy. Putting down lots of salt on the floors and carpets in your home can really help. After putting the salt in your carpet, wait about twenty four hours and then vacuum the carpet. Doing this every other day will rid your home of fleas. You must remember to keep this up or the fleas will come back. Bathing your pet in Dawn dish detergent about once a week or so, is another effective way to rid your pet and your home of fleas. Dish detergent, especially this specific brand, will kill fleas on contact and it is much less expensive than buying dog shampoos that claim to kill fleas and ticks.

Use a flea comb

Using a flea comb on your pets can work wonders. This seems like it should be an an obvious choice of home remedies for fleas, but most people do not use a flea comb on their pets. Using a dry flea comb to swipe and then throw fleas into a bowl of water and dish soap is a great remedy. Do this every day to make sure that your pet is rid of fleas. This process only takes about ten minutes for the average sized cat and maybe twenty minutes for the average sized dog. Run your carpet sweeper or vacuum every day and throw out any fleas that you may find. Drowning them in water is a good idea. Make sure that you keep your linens washed and fresh.  Keeping up this routine will surely make the fleas disappear and help keep them away.

How To Ease The Pain With A Home Remedy For Sinus Infections

One of the most painful maladies that anyone can deal with is a sinus infection. Over-the-counter medicines might work, for a time, but may not take care of all the symptoms. To truly get some lasting relief, at least so that you can sleep, you might need one of the many home remedies for sinus infections that have been around for years. If the condition persists, or does not seem to be affected by the home remedy, you might want to consult with your doctor as to what your next step should be.

The Symptoms Of A Sinus Infection

While there are several medical conditions that have similar symptoms, like the cold or the flu, the one thing that separates a sinus infection from all the rest is the pain. The pressure felt from the sinus passages when they are so crammed full of mucus is unrelenting, and may get worse when moving about. There may also be a fever, accompanied by muscle aches, and swelling. Herbal remedies that act as a decongestant are recommended, and have the bonus effect of not having limitations as to how often you can take them. Just remember to keep hydrated throughout your treatment, as the home remedy, as well as the fever, can cause you to become dehydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, including water, teas and juices while ill.

Herbal Remedies For A Sinus Infection

One of the best home remedies for a sinus infection involves using herbal remedies like infusions of peppermint and eucalyptus oils to free the sinus passages of the accumulated mucus. Increasing the amount of pineapple in your diet will also help, as fresh pineapple contains an enzyme known as bromelain that can actually soothe the sinus passages, and reduce the swelling. Another home remedy involving natural ingredients encourages making a paste of crushed cinnamon, and applying it to your forehead to help alleviate the sinus pressure and pain.

Physical Home Remedies

There are some physical things that you can do to ease some of the aches and pains associated with sinus infections, and can be an effective home remedy themselves. The first involves simply moving about, because physical activities can stimulate blood flow to the muscles, and begin to alleviate some of those aches that come with fevers. Stretch and rotate your neck muscles often, as they can become tense and knotted from the stress associated with this ailment.

Placing cool, damp towels on your forehead, as well as the pulse points on either side of the neck, and the back of the wrists, will also alleviate any fevers that spring up. Finally, a quick herbal remedy allows you to make your own saline solution. Mix a few pinches of salt with warmed water, and put it into a small spray bottle. Gently spray a small amount into each nostril, so that any accumulated mucus can be loosened and washed away.

4 Home Remedies for Weeds

Home gardens are becoming more and more popular for Americans everywhere. People have wanted to start growing their own vegetables to add some organic foods to their diet, and they have also started adding more beauty to their yards with flowers. One thing that has been known to ruin anyone’s garden fun is weeds. These pesky little things can grow all over the garden and all through the yard. They can ruin the plants and flowers that have been planted, and they are often very hard to get rid of. It takes a very long time to have to pull these awful things out of the ground, and most of the chemicals sprayed on weeds to get rid of them are harmful to the rest of the garden and yard. Thankfully, there are some safer home remedies that can be used to get rid of weeds.

Newspaper

A rather strange material that is used as a home remedy to get rid of and prevent weeds from getting into the garden is newspaper. To prevent weeds from being able to grow, gardeners should line their garden ground with torn newspaper and add water. After this, the soil and mulch can be added. This special product can also be added to a garden that already has weeds and other plants in it. Gardeners just have to line the garden with the torn newspaper going around the plants and flowers and over the weeds, add water, then cover it with more soil and mulch. This will prevent sunlight to reach the weeds, therefore not allowing them to grow and eventually they will die.

Boiled Water

Another safe alternative to chemicals that kill weeds is to use boiling water. After boiling the water on the stove, carefully take it outside and pour it onto the weeds. The water will kill the weeds from the root without using harmful toxins that can also destroy the grass. This is a great method to use on areas around sidewalks, but people have to be careful about pouring the boiling water around other plants, because it can also kill them.

Rock Salt

A home remedy for killing weeds that might take a little longer than others to work is by sprinkling rock salt at the base of the weeds. This is a lot less harmful than using other chemicals, and they destroy the weeds at their roots. This method is dependent on having the salt stay on the base of the weeds until the root is destroyed, so they should not be near other plants that need to be watered frequently.

White Vinegar

White vinegar is another weed killer that is non-toxic and also inexpensive. When the white vinegar is poured onto the base and the leaves of the weeds, it can kill them within a week. Gardeners who need to kill weeds in areas near other plants should spray the white vinegar on stream selection of a spray bottle at the base and leaves of the weeds.

4 Home Remedies for Swimmers Ear

Some people have grown up hearing people say that they have swimmer’s ear after getting out of a pool, thinking that they would get it from going swimming too. However, swimmer’s ear is actually a bacterial infection in the outer ear canal. This infection can occur when a thin layer of skin inside the ear canal gets damaged by Q-tips or ear buds. It can also occur when extra water is left inside the ear canal causing bacteria to form, so swimming could be the cause of some people’s swimmer’s ear. It doesn’t happen to everyone who goes swimming, however, so children should not be scared to have fun in the water. Swimmer’s ear is not a serious infection, and it can be treated with medications. If it is not treated quickly, then there are more serious conditions that can be caused by the infection. There are also some home remedies that help treat the symptoms of swimmer’s ear and to help speed up the recovery of what the doctor prescribes.

Hot Garlic Oil

A few drops of hot garlic oil into the ear can help clean it out, and speed up the recovery of the swimmer’s ear infection. To make this oil people should; let pieces of grated garlic soak in a bowl of olive oil overnight, strain the garlic and remove in the morning, then heat the oil in the microwave for about 15 seconds and test on the palm to make sure it is not too hot. This can then be used with a dropper to put the drops in the ear.

White Vinegar

White vinegar solution is another home remedy that can help speed up the recovery of the infection, and it can help with the side-effects like pain and itchiness. To make this solution, people just need to mix a few drops of white vinegar into a small cup of water. White vinegar mixed with rubbing alcohol can speed up the recovery of the infection.

Heat Therapy

Putting a heating pad or hot wash cloth around a water bottle onto the affected ear can help take the pain out of the earache. People just need to make sure that the heat is not too hot.

Mineral Oil

Mineral oil is a great home remedy for preventing swimmer’s ear from happening when people go swimming. They just have to place a little onto both ears as to not allow enough water to get inside the ear canal and cause the infection.

4 Home Remedies for Fleas

Everyone loves their pets, and they often think of them as part of their own family. None of them, however, love it when their pets get fleas. Fleas can be terrible for not only the pet, but for the entire family. They are microscopic bugs that can get hidden in pet’s fur, in the fabric of furniture, and in the carpet. These tiny pests can cause rashes and infected skin on both pets and people. There are some medications to prevent pets from getting fleas, and there are also some chemicals used to get rid of fleas. Unfortunately, most of these chemicals used to prevent and get rid of fleas are often not safe for either pet or person. Thankfully, there are some safer home remedies that people can use to get rid of and prevent fleas.

Wash Pets

Dogs need to be bathed every day to help prevent the spread of fleas. Cats don’t require regular washing unless they already have fleas. Lavender is a natural flea repellant, and adding a few drops of it to the pet’s baths can help keep fleas away.

Homemade Flea Spray

Since most of the store bought flea repellant spray have harmful chemicals and toxins in them, they are not very safe to spray on pets or in the house. That is why a homemade flea spray has been created as a home remedy for getting rid of fleas. To make this safe flea spray, mix two drops of lavender oil with two drops of cedar wood oil and 12 ounces of water. This mixture can be poured into an inexpensive spray bottle. This should be sprayed on the pet three times a day for about two weeks to be able to get rid of the fleas.

Brewer’s Yeast

Another powerful home remedy for preventing the spread of fleas is brewer’s yeast. This is an inexpensive substitution for some of the more harmful products. Brewer’s yeast is a natural repellant, and it can be given as a daily oral supplement for pets. Small breed dogs and cats should take 1 teaspoon of this a day, and medium to large breed dogs should take 1 tablespoon of this each day.

Getting Rid of Fleas in the Home

When fleas have already been spotted on pets, they are more than likely already all over the house. All of the fabric in the house should be washed as soon as possible. This includes pillow cases, blankets, sheets, dog beds, dog toys, upholstery, and carpets. A high powered vacuum cleaner should be used on carpets to be able to pick up any fleas or eggs they might have left in the carpet. Sprinkling salt on carpet and fabrics before and after vacuuming can be another inexpensive and safer way to get rid of fleas in the home.

4 Home Remedies for Depression

It has been a rough decade for the United States’ economy, with more and more Americans becoming affected by it with depression. There are so many families without enough money to pay their bills and without good enough credit to get a loan. There are many parents out of work, and all of this has also been affecting the children. Children can see how much their family is struggling despite how hard their parents try to shield it from them. This has been a devastating time, and depression has taken its toll on so many people. Depression can lead to serious health problems, and it should not be ignored. Those suffering from severe depression should see a doctor and get help, but others that occasionally feel sad and irritable might be able to take comfort from some home remedies.

Licorice Root

There is an herb called licorice root that can help lessen the feeling of depression. This herb should not be taken by people on certain medications without consulting a doctor first, because it can interact negatively with some medicines. The licorice root herb slows down the production of cortisol (stress hormone) in the body, which therefore slows down and lessons the effects of depression.

Chamomile

Another herb that can work as a home remedy for depression is chamomile. It is really good when taken as tea, and it works especially well at bedtime. This is because it works as a sedative to calm people down.

Ding Xin Wan

There is a Chinese herbal home remedy that helps to treat insomnia, loss of appetite, and irritability called Ding Xin Wan. These are all symptoms of depression, so this herbal treatment essentially works on treating depression. It has been used to treat these conditions since ancient times, and it has been considered one of the best remedies for treating these conditions.

Activities

There are certain activities that can be done at home to improve the feeling of depression. Exercising has been proven as an effective activity to release stress and tension. Exercise also produces natural endorphins in the body, which act as a natural pain reliever and mood stabilizer. Another activity that can help relieves stress and help people deal with their feelings of depression is meditating. When people learn how to meditate, they are able to fully relax. This form of relaxation has been known to help people’s moods and relieve some of their stress. Yoga is yet another activity that people can do from home to help with their depression. 4 Home Remedies for Bug Bites

Bug bites can be one of the most annoying parts of trying to spend some quality time with family and friends outdoors. Whether people are trying to have a nice picnic in the fresh air, or trying to relax in front of a nice backyard fire, there are always a few bugs that just can’t get the clue. People can spray as much bug spray as they want, and light as many bug repellant candles as they can, but there are still going to be some nasty little bugs that will get to them when they least expect it. Bug bites can cause red, swollen, and itchy irritated bumps. When they are scratched, it can cause the skin to become infected making the rash worse. Thankfully, there are some home remedies that can help to make bug bites a little more tolerable.

Salt & Baking Soda Paste

Salt and baking soda paste is the most helpful home remedy for reducing the itch and pain associated with bug bites. To make this paste, just combine equal parts of salt and baking soda, and then add enough water to create a thick paste solution. The affected area(s) just need to be covered with the paste, and left on for as long as needed to sooth the rash.

Ice Pack

Applying an ice pack to swollen skin has proven to be an effective home remedy for bug bites. The ice pack should be left on the bite for about 15 minutes once every hour for the first six hours after the skin was bitten. Keeping the skin cool will help to numb the area, and reduce most of the pain. It can also help soothe the skin to relieve some of the itching. Finally, cooling the bug bite with an ice pack can also reduce the swelling.

Treat the Skin

To prevent the skin of a bug bite from getting infected, it is important to treat the area quickly after the bite occurs. The best way to treat the affected skin from a bug bite is to first wash it with soap and water. After the area has been washed, rubbing alcohol or antiseptic should be applied to the skin. If the bites still become irritated after the skin has been washed, an antibiotic ointment should be applied to the skin and covered with a bandage. This will help prevent itching, which will help keep the skin from becoming infected.

Oatmeal

An unusual way to use oatmeal can actually provide some comfort to itchy irritated skin caused from bug bites. Adding oatmeal to a nice hot bath can help soothe all of the bug bite areas on the skin. It can help with the pain and the itching, and it can leave the skin feeling better for hours after the bath as well. Grinding a cup of oatmeal in the blender will help make it dissolve faster and easier in the bath water.

3 Home Remedies for the Common Cold

While there is no known cure for a cold, there are ways to provide some relief for the symptoms of the cold. Some of the symptoms from the common cold can include a runny nose, coughing, sore throat, headache, body aches, sneezing, chills, and fatigue. Having a cold can make people feel horrible, and resting can only provide mild comfort. Thankfully, there are some home remedies that can help to alleviate some of the awful side effects of the cold. However, if a cold lasts more than five to seven days a doctor should be contacted and informed.

Steam

Breathing steam in is a simple home remedy that can help the way people feel when they have a cold. This can be as simple as running a hot shower and closing the door to the bathroom.  Taking a hot shower while breathing in the steam can help to clear the sinuses and make it easier to breathe. Heating water in a bowl or pot and putting a towel over the head making sure to also cover the bowl or pot can give the same effect. This can also help save more water than running a hot shower to provide the steam. Adding a few drops of eucalyptus oil to the water before heating and breathing it in can help a sore throat and congestion.

Ginger

Ginger is a natural decongestant and it can also produce some pain relief. Fresh ginger can be grated and put into some hot tea as a good way to provide some relief and it can be taken throughout the day as a way to keep hydrated. Ginger can also be added to soup or other liquids as a great home remedy to help as a decongestant, and this can also provide some comfort to all of the aches and pains that the common cold can cause.

Diet

When food is tolerable while having a cold, there are certain foods that work as a good home remedy to provide some relief from some of the symptoms of a cold and help to fight it all together. Eating foods rich with antioxidants and vitamin C such as fresh fruits and vegetables can help to fight the cold germs and can also help to prevent it from recurring. Avoiding foods that are high in starch, fried, and heavy will help people feel better when they are sick. Making sure to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day can help to flush out the toxins causing the body to become sick, and it can help to keep hydrated. However, alcohol and caffeine should not be the kind of liquids to drink while sick as they actually dehydrate the body and make people feel worse.

3 Home Remedies For Back Pain

Back pain is one of the most common types of chronic pain in the world. Back pain can be caused by many different things including; pregnancy, heavy lifting, injuries, and poor posture. There are numerous pain medications that when taken over a long period of time can be very harmful to the body. While some people may need to also take some kind of back medication, there are some home remedies that can lessen back pain.

Stretching

There are many different stretching techniques that people can use to relieve back pain and do right in their own home. When people are able to do it, making bridges while lying on their back can really help stretch the lower back out. All they have to do is lay on their back, bring their knees up, then push their bottoms off the floor using their feet making a “bridge” or arch in their back. Doing this repeatedly going up and down can help this stretch be more effective. Another great stretch for the back is to lie down on the back bend one knee up keeping the foot on the floor, then lifting the other leg up keeping it straight and making small circles in the air. These stretches are great home remedies to help back pain become a little more tolerable.

Hot & Cold Therapy

Putting heat on the back can help calm the muscles and alleviate the source of the back pain. For heat people can use a heating pad, heated patch, hot stones, or a microwavable heating pack. It is nice to rest the back from time to time especially when more pain is starting up again, and adding heat to a nice rest can help relieve some of the back pain even more. When adding heat to the back for pain, it is important to also use cold packs to this kind of therapy. Back pain can be caused by inflamed muscles, and heat can sometimes cause this to happen. Putting a cold pack on the inflamed area of the back can help to release this tension on the back and make it feel better. These two processes are great home remedies to try for back pain.

Relaxation

Part of what makes pain worse is stress. Having chronic back pain can get really stressful, and that stress can actually cause more pain and make it worse. Making sure to have good relaxation techniques during the day as well as at bedtime can help to alleviate some stress, which can help to also alleviate some of the back pain. Meditating is a great way to relieve some stress, and this can be done during the day as well as in bed right before going to sleep. A nice hot bubble bath can also be a great way to relax and unwind at the end of the day. Just taking time to relax is a good home remedy for back pain that is simple for anyone to do.

4 Home Remedies For Insomnia

Many people suffer from insomnia.  This can be caused by stress, and it can make people become even more stressed as a result.  It is impossible to “catch up” on sleep, and trying to function all day on just a few hours of sleep can be close to impossible.  Sleeping pills can be addictive and harmful, but insomnia can cause depression and other health issues.  That is why trying these four home remedies for insomnia is a better choice.

Sugar

Sugar is a home remedy for insomnia that most people have never heard of.  Eating or drinking something with sugar about thirty minutes before going to bed can work as a sedative.  Some great things to try are having a little snack of milk and cookies before bed.  Although, the cookies should not have too much chocolate in them since chocolate has caffeine in them.  Putting sugar or honey in warm milk or tea is also a great thing to drink before going to bed.

Bedtime Snack

It seems odd to eat right before going to bed; however, certain foods have tryptophan as an ingredient that helps the brain fall into a slumber state.  This is why eating a small snack that have the chemical tryptophan in it is a great home remedy for insomnia. Milk, cottage cheese, cashews, and soybeans are a great snack that all have tryptophan in them.  Chicken and turkey also have tryptophan in them, so having these foods as a late dinner could also work to help fall asleep.

Bedtime Routine

Just as children tend to go to sleep easier when they have the same bedtime routine, adults can also benefit from having their own bedtime routine.  Having a bedtime routine is a great home remedy that will help the brain and body “know” when it is time to unwind and settle down to sleep.  These routines can be different for everyone and certain routines can affect people differently.  This is why trying the same routine for at least a week before changing it is best.  Hot baths can be a calming experience for some people; however, it can also stimulate others and make it harder to fall asleep.  This is why testing different things for a week can help decide what the best bedtime routine will be for each individual.  Using Epsom salts in a nice hot bath can make the body relax and help to make sleep come more naturally.  Drinking herbal tea such as chamomile after a hot bath can further relax the body to make falling asleep easier.

Limiting Caffeine and Alcohol

Doing things about insomnia is important, but not doing things can be just as important.  Another home remedy for insomnia is to limit the amount of caffeine and alcohol that is consumed each day.  Although alcohol can make people fall asleep, it can also make people wake up in the middle of the night with a headache and a full bladder.  When a headache and/or bathroom break wakes people up, it is harder to fall asleep because the sedative effect of alcohol has worn off.  That is why limiting the amount of alcohol that is consumed is important.  Having just one glass of wine can help people fall asleep without having the awful side effects associated with consuming too much alcohol.  Caffeine stimulates the brain, and therefore, can make it harder to fall asleep.  That is why it is best to limit the amount of caffeine that is consumed during the day, and to stop the consumption of caffeine at least eight hours before bedtime.

4 Home Remedies For Allergies

While serious allergies need to be discussed with a doctor, there are several home remedies that can help with common allergy problems.  These remedies have been practiced and tested, and they can be used safely from the comfort of your home.  Home remedies can be safer and more cost effective to use on mild allergies, so trying these four home remedies can be a great thing to do.

Peppermint Tea

Drinking peppermint tea is a great home remedy to try clearing the sinuses.  Peppermint has substances in it that work as a decongestant, anti-inflammatory, as well as a mild antibacterial agent.  Drinking some peppermint tea at night can help make it easier to breath while going to sleep.

Steam

Another home remedy for allergies is breathing in steam to help clear and refresh the sinuses.  This can be as simple as running a hot shower and closing the door to the bathroom.  Starting out the day with a hot shower and breathing in the steam can help refresh the sinuses and help to get going.  Ending the day with a hot shower while breathing in the steam can help to clear the sinuses and make it easier to breathe while trying to go to sleep.  Heating water in a bowl or pot and putting a towel over the head making sure to also cover the bowl or pot can give the same effect.  This can also help save more water than running a hot shower to provide the steam.

Wasabi

Wasabi is in the horseradish family, and both can be used as a home remedy to help allergy symptoms.  These spicy condiments help with mucus flow and clear the sinuses.  These are pretty spicy, so try putting some on a sandwich or other food instead of eating it plain.  Wasabi is great with Japanese food, and a little can go a long way.

Washing

It seems so simple, but making sure to wash the pollen and allergens off of pets and people is one home remedy that should not be ignored.  When people spend a lot of time outdoors, they tend to carry pollen and other allergens inside with them.  It is a good idea to take a shower before sitting on furniture and going to bed after coming inside to prevent those allergens to get trapped on furniture inside.  Make sure to wash pillow cases, sheets, blankets, and furniture with fabric often to get rid of dust mites.  It is also a good idea to wash pets often to prevent allergy irritation caused by them.  These allergens can be washed away with warm water, so this is something that can be done every day.

7 Home Remedies For Morning Sickness

While nausea has no true cures, there are quite a few home remedies of morning sickness that can take the queasy feeling out of your stomach. Approximately 85 percent of women in the first three months of their pregnancy, experience nausea, dry heaving, and vomiting. Changing some of your dietary habits may help take the queasy edge off, and can provide natural home remedies for morning sickness.

1-Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits, like lemons, oranges, and limes can increase the acid in your stomach that you have lost during vomiting, that can cause that nauseous feeling. Try squeezing some into hot water.

2-The Old Saltines

Crackers, like saltines, are easy on the stomach and can absorb excess acids, if you have too much. Graze on some during the day and before you go to bed, and you may find that queasy feeling subsiding.

3-Fruits & Veggies

High water content fruits and vegetables can refresh lost hydration that can make you feel lightheaded and nauseous. Try apples, melons, grapes, carrots, and pears. Much of the water you ingest through the day comes for fruits and vegetables.

4-Potato Chips

Potato chips while a guilty pleasure otherwise, can be beneficial in preventing vomiting, much the same way crackers will. Eat plain potato chips free of Olestra which is a fat substitute, and can cause diarrhea.

5-Vitamin B6

Many doctors will recommend a vitamin B6 supplement, which can help you with nausea. Speak to your family doctor before taking this however, so you know what dose is appropriate for your body type.

6-Cruhed Fennel
A tincture of crushed fennel in warm water can be fantastic home remedies for morning sickness. The Chinese have been using this as a cure for nausea related to morning sickness for centuries, making it one of the oldest remedies.

7-Lavender

If certain scents trigger a bout of nausea or sickness, keep an herbal mixture of lavender and thyme on hand to clear your nasal passages of whatever foul scent is bothering you. This can help quite a bit when your stomach begins to turn.

Using any number of these home morning sickness remedies can ease the passing of the first three months of your pregnancy, helping you to stay comfortable and happy when you would otherwise feel that unsettling nausea. While prescription nausea medications can be damaging to a developing child, these natural methods are safe and effective for you and your rapidly growing baby to ingest at your leisure.

A lot of that hair is expelled through stool, but some gets caught in the esophagus. Diet

If the problem persists, you may want to change your cat’s diet to one rich in fiber. You can ask your veterinarian over the phone about one that is right for your cat. You may want to try canned pumpkin as well, about one teaspoon to every ten pounds your cat weighs.

Grooming

Brushing away loose fur before your cat has had a chance to lick it away can also be a preventative home remedies for hairball in cats.  Grooming your cat with a bristled pet brush is very important to the prevention of hairball development.

Juice

It contains something called bromelain, which can break apart the hairballs in the stomach.

If your cat is regularly having problems with hairballs, you should definitely consider some of these safe and effective home remedies fir hairball in cat. They can make your cat happier and your home cleaner in no time.

Home Remedies for Oily Hair

Have oily hair? Tired of it constantly being greasy, and feeling like you need to take yet another shower half way through the day? Perhaps you were born with extra oily follicles, but there is no need to live with the embarrassment. There are many home remedies available to help alleviate your oil issue and lead you to a smoother, lighter head of hair.

Shampoo

If you have oily hair, you should shampoo often. Some people may say that it is healthier to wash your hair every few days rather than daily. And, while this may be true, it won’t get rid of your problem! Don’t worry about over shampooing, especially if you have the right products. Many times shampoos have a lot of extra additives and conditioners added to them. If your shampoo is a thick, creamy substance, it may be one of them. Creamy shampoos often are full of wax, which definitely weighs down your hair. Instead look for clear shampoos, and speak with your stylist about the best product for you. Also, make sure you rinse thoroughly! No product will leave hair un-oiled if it isn’t rinsed out properly.

Cupboard Remedies

You may not realize it, but you most likely have many oil-reducing products right in your kitchen cupboard. Unless you are a poor college student, that is. Cider vinegar can be a great solution to oily hair. Simply add ¼ cup of the vinegar to a tub of warm water. Soak your hair in the solution and rinse with warm water. Or, you may choose to spray it on your hair an then rinse out. Either way it will help get rid of waxy buildup. Lemon juice is also great at cutting out grease. That’s why it’s used in so many soaps! Simply soak your hair in a mixture of equal parts lemon juice and water. Rinse out and enjoy your oil-free hair!

Other Miscellaneous

Make sure you aren’t brushing your hair too often. Every time you bring your brush through a full stroke in your hair, you are actually distributing oil from your scalp throughout the rest of your curls. You can still brush your hair of course, just don’t do it too often! It also will help reduce split ends. You can also rinse your hair with alcohol to get rid of oily hair. Alcohols have the amazing effect of drying into thin air, and will help reduce oils. You also can wash your hair with tomato juice to tone down the grease. To do this, take a fresh tomato and grind down until you are able to obtain the juice. Massage into your scalp and enjoy the aftermath.

Home Remedies for Neck Pain

Neck pain is not a good feeling. If you have ever experienced this, you know that it is one of the most activity hindering occurrences you can experience. If the pain is unbearably bad, it can leave you sitting out of nearly everything for days on end. Of course, you don’t want to experience that! If you do indeed have pain within your neck, or would like to help reduce your chances of getting it, try these home remedies.

Gracefully Move Around

Although neck pain makes everyday movements very difficult, they should be followed through with none-the-less! Practitioners used to tell patients to stay as still as possible, for as long as possible, in order to alleviate the pain. However, this approach does not necessarily work. Of course you don’t want to be jerking your head in every direction, but you can take very small movements. Work on easing your way back into your daily activities as soon as you can. These simple little movements will help stretch the painful muscles, and get them working normally again.

Ensure Good Health Habits

If possible, stop doing the activities which irritate your neck. In order to fully eliminate neck pain, you must get rid of the source. Perhaps your job is extremely stressful and causes muscle spasms throughout your body. Of course it is probably not reasonable to quit work altogether, but perhaps you can lighten your work load a bit. Also, you can do strengthening exercise, along with strategic stretching every morning to help prevent the pain from occurring in the first place. Stretching out your muscles will make them more flexible, and able to take on more tension without pain. If you smoke, this may also contribute to your pain. Smoking essentially delays your muscle tissue from repairing itself because is lowers your supply of white blood cells. Build your immunity and quit the cigarettes.

Hot or Cold?

There are many different methods involving heat which can help alleviate your neck pain. Some may argue that heat is better for muscle tension while others argue the opposite. However, most individuals would agree that heat indeed helps alleviate the pain best. Try applying a heating pad to your neck for 15 to 20 minutes multiple times throughout the day. Or, you may decide to take a warm shower as a substitute for one of those heating pad treatments. No matter what you do, make sure you don’t keep the heat on for more than 20 minutes. Having too much heat will actually enhance the swelling, and perhaps lead to more pain.

Traditional Home Remedies For Brown Spots

One of the inevitable conditions that should be expected are the brown spots that appear on our skin as we age. There are things we do during life that hasten their arrival, like not using enough sunscreen or moisturizers while we can. Once they appear, however, it is not the end of the world, because all of them can be treated with traditional home remedies that will fade or remove them.

Exfoliating Brown Spots

One of the best home remedies to use are those that remove brown spots altogether. They do this through a process known as exfoliating, which removes the skin cells that have become discolored due to premature aging. The home remedy that will work best in this situation involves using lemon juice, applied with a cotton ball, directly to the skin. Dabbing brown spots with the juice twice a day, for at least a week or two, will fade the spot completely away. Red onions are reported to do the same thing, but will smell worse than the lemon juice.

Regenerating Home Remedies

Another method for removing brown spots through home remedies is to use substances that will trigger the skin’s regenerative properties, and fade the spots through healing. Castor oil is recommended for use if the skin around the spots is rough. The oil will penetrate the skin deeply, and soften and heal it over time. Shea butter is another substance used in home remedies for discolored spots, and its composition is close to that which is found in the skin. Working it into the affected areas will see the spots begin to fade within four to six weeks.

Natural Moisturizers

One of the reasons that age spots appear so clearly is because the skin around these brown spots has lost its natural moisture due to premature aging. Home remedies that involve using certain oils will supplement that moisture, and return the skin to its original levels and fade the spots. Shea butter, grape seed oil, jojoba oil and olive oil will work best if worked into the skin at least once or twice a day.

Home Remedies for Muscle Cramps

Everyone dreads tense muscles. They are extremely painful and can hinder your activities and normal functionality throughout the day. Sometimes people get cramps simply from pulling a muscle while others may get them due to an unbearable amount of stress. Either way, cramps can be the body’s way of communicating that enough is enough and it needs some rest! If you find yourself with dreaded cramps, try these home remedies to alleviate your pain.

Exercise

Muscle cramps occur often when muscles are tightening up within the body. A great remedy to help release this tension would be to get up and get moving! Even just walking around can help relax those tense muscles. Other great home remedies and forms of exercise would be participating in yoga, jogging or riding a bike. Pretty much anything that gets the body moving is a plus for this method. For a leg cramp, a somewhat successful remedy would be to place your foot on very cold ground, or perhaps an ice pack. This may help alleviate the pain temporarily while you find another solution.

Diet

Certain substances can actually heighten your pain during cramps. A good preventative home remedy for this would be to minimize or stray away from anything containing caffeine about four days before your cycle is scheduled to begin. That is, if your cramps are related to female cycles. Dairy has also been known to create tenser muscles, so try staying away from this if you are starting to feel the effects of muscle cramps as well. However, a good home remedy substance that will help alleviate the pain would be magnesium. Or, potassium! Potassium has been known to greatly reduce the effects of cramps. This is why many times you will see athletes munching down on bananas after their race. For some reason it works!

Liquids

An excellent home remedy to alleviate cramps would be creating a certain tea concoction. Bring one to two cups of water to a boil. Once this is happening, smash about 1 ½ teaspoons of Anise seed into a mug. Pour the boiled water into the mug, and let steep for about twenty minutes. Drink, enjoy, and sip away the pain! Another great home remedy would be taking some ibuprofen and sitting in a long, hot shower. Another great method for getting rid of muscle cramps would be to drink a lot of water! Keeping your body hydrated will help ensure it can run as smoothly as possible, without any stop-ups.

Home Remedies for Irritated Eyes

Do you have irritated eyes? Do you wish it would stop, but aren’t sure exactly how to get the pain to go away? Are you trying to avoid going to the doctor and having unknown chemicals flushed into your eyes? Well, there’s good news for you. You can actually help reduce, and perhaps even eliminate your eye irritation with some home remedies.

Eyedrop Mixtures

Although it may be really easy to stop at the store and buy an over-the-counter eye drop mixture, you can also create some of your own! One involves the simple recipe of milk and honey. First, warm the milk and then add an equal part of honey to your cup. Mix the concoction together until the honey is no longer chunky, but rather a smooth part of the milk. Using an eyedropper, apply about 2-3 drops to your eyes daily. For another mixture, mix 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup water. While using a cottonball, gently wash your eyes with the liquid. Or, baking soda can work wonders as well. Mix ¼ teaspoon baking soda with 1 cup water and fully flush into your eye.

Liquids

Many different liquids can be used to help restrain irritated eyes. One would be Witch Hazel. Simply pour the liquid onto a cottonball and gently push onto your eyelids. Its many healing properties just might do the trick! Or, mix Aloe Vera juice with water. Once the mixture is frozen, place it over your eyes. This will create a soothing effect for the irritability. For another remedy, make a cup of chamomile tea and filter it a few times through a fine strainer. Make sure you can’t see any chunks, because you don’t want them to go into your eyes! Let the mixture sit until it becomes lukewarm. Then, gently wash your entire face with it, making sure to pay special attention to your eyes. This will help reduce the pain and soothe your irritation.

Objects

A very surprising method for healing irritated eyes includes metal spoons. First, take four metal spoons and place them in water. Let them chill in the refrigerator for 10-20 minutes, and remove. Place one spoon curve downward over each eye, leaving two to switch when they warm. Continue doing this until pain and swelling decreases. Another extremely popular remedy to cure irritation in the eyes would be to make cucumber eye masks. In order to do this, cut two very thin slices of cucumber, and chill in the refrigerator. Close your eyes, and place over your eyelids for about 10 minutes.
